Albert Belz’s career in the arts originally began as an actor before turning his hand to writing for stage and screen. An award-winning playwright, his unique voice has crossed many datelines and divides having been performed internationally from London to Paris to New York & Sydney. Issues ranging from class, ethnicity and sexual politics, to Gothic serial killers and religion resonate through his words.
Albert has held writing residencies in Les Quesnoy (Northern France) also Auckland, Waikato, Victoria and Canterbury Universities.
His latest play “Astroman” has been produced by the Melbourne Theatre Company, Court Theatre and most recently Auckland Theatre Company. Albert was creator and head-writer on the Maori comedy series “Tongue Tied” which screened on Television in 2018 and is available on MTS On Demand. He recently completed his Masters in Creative Writing (1st Class Honours) while lecturing in both writing for stage and screen. Albert also writes for local television drama 'Head High' (Season 2), and is currently the Robert Burns Fellow @ Otago University in Dunedin.
Kaituhi Creative
Albert founded Kaituhi Creative in 2018 to better bring his vision of writing to life on stage and screen. In 2019 Kaituhi Creative presented its first live show "Kingdom of Katz" at the Hamilton Gardens Festival in New Zealand to much praise. Kaituhi Creative continues to grow from strength-to-strength.
